This collection consists of Walter Jerome Mathews' 1893 diploma from North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (now North Carolina State University). Mathews became the first person to enroll at the college in October 1889.

Hugh Williams Primrose was one of six sons born to William Stuart Primrose and Ella Williams Primrose. He was born January 21, 1878 and died January 27, 1904. He was a member of the graduating class of 1897. His father, William Stuart Primrose, was a member of the original Watauga Club which helped found the college.
